** This post has been updated with the precautionary measures we are currently taking due to COVID-19.
We know that site safety is of the utmost importance in the construction industry. It’s why we’ve worked hard to establish safe practices on site to promote the well-being of our employees and our neighbours.
Here are a few of the areas we focus on to ensure our team is leading the way with safety, both on and off our job sites.
1.Improving health and safety knowledge
While the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires health and safety training of all employees, our sessions go further. With information specific to the project and the job site, we prepare all employees to work efficiently and safely on any Stonerise venture.
Our approach allows each worker to be properly trained according to Ontario’s health and safety regulations, become familiar with a given project and understand the procedures for dealing with workplace hazards. We’re confident we have one of the best and most protected crew of workers in construction sites across Ontario.
2.24/7 commitment
On our sites, we ensure the health and safety inspector and committee is on call 24/7 for safety issues as they arise. Their tasks include:
- Daily/weekly job site inspections to minimize or alleviate unsafe work conditions and prevent workplace accidents
- Problem-solving identified issues or situations
- Providing recommendations related to workplace practices/conditions and accident investigations
We tour IHSA representatives around each construction site and make an effort to routinely meet with IHSA in order to maintain meeting health and safety and Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) requirements. Our health and safety inspector is also present during any Ministry of Labour or government inspections and ensures required documentation is posted as per IHSA.
Additionally, a daily job hazard analysis (JHA) is performed on all Stonerise Construction sites. This gives us a chance to maintain accurate records of daily work that outline each potential hazard. Each employee must sign off on the JHA in order to confirm awareness of the hazard and procedures to follow if required.
3.Extending safety considerations to the public
Safety doesn’t stop with our workers. Our projects will consider zoning requirements, environmental impact, scheduling, budgeting, and construction-site safety while minimizing the inconvenience to the public caused by any large-scale building construction.
While construction is underway, we raise public awareness about our work. In order to gain the public’s attention, we install signage and fencing around the perimeter of a given construction site to establish a zone of increased awareness.
4.Focusing on height safety
Projects at Stonerise Construction can vary between small to large-scale building construction — this means our employees are often working at heights. Encompassing any work that is above or below ground at levels where a person could fall and injure themselves if no precautions are taken, height safety must be taken seriously. For site workers, you could fall off a ladder, off a roof’s edge, or through an opening on the floor. In the general industry, fall protection is required at 4 feet above a lower level. In order to maintain safety on our sites, we ensure:
- Workers use railings, lifts and ladders properly and select the proper PPE (Personal Fall Arrest Systems)
- Appropriate and thorough training is completed for each employee on working at heights
- Proper education on roofing regulations
We follow safety regulations to develop solutions for our construction community. Helping employees understand the importance of safety and providing them with guidance and support is crucial to us — we keep the wellbeing of our workers top of mind when it comes to safety on the job site, and it shows. To our employees and future employees, we are part of a vision that continuously raises the bar when it comes to safety in the workplace.
As a leader in construction management, we build communities in the safest way possible to achieve optimal success

COVID-19 Update:
As the news surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop, the Stonerise Construction team is taking precautionary measures and updating our health screening measures based on the new guidelines by our government and health authorities to ensure the health and safety of our clients, trade partners, and employees.
In an effort to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, enhanced health screening measures have been implemented at designated entry points for anyone entering our work locations. Further, all those, including trades, suppliers, union reps and Stonerise employees accessing our sites are required to wear masks at all times. We have hired a sanitation company to sanitize our sites multiple times a day, and we have scheduled work to ensure no one is on the same floor at once.
We continue to be mindful of keeping our employees safe, and as such, all of our office staff are working from home to ensure we are practicing social distancing effectively.
We will continue to monitor the rapidly evolving situation and adhere to the Government of Canada’s health and safety guidelines. Ensuring our community’s health and safety as we overcome this global crisis together is our top priority!
